Chris McAtee, CEPA

President

Chris started INS Capital Group (INS) when he saw a need for a quality, professional advisory firm to assist small to midsize business owners in the insurance industry with M&A and capital raising activities.  Chris has spent his entire career in the insurance industry focusing on mergers, acquisitions and financing options for agents.  Prior to founding INS, Chris worked nearly 10 years with the largest insurance lender in the country, serving in the capacity of Sales Manager and Vice President. During his tenure, he was the firm’s top producer and responsible for handling some of their largest and most complex transactions.  

Chris has the unique experience of sitting at each side of the negotiating table during the acquisition process. By representing buyers, sellers & the lender during transactions, his perspective and understanding of what each party needs to accomplish is invaluable. His client list includes a variety of business owners within the insurance industry, including captive and independent retail agents, Insurance Networks, wholesale agents, Managing General Agencies and Program Administrators, whose market values ranged between $1M and $50M.  With over 150 completed transactions, approaching $1 Billion in deal value for clients across the country, Chris has built an extensive network of buyers and lending professionals; a valuable resource to agents looking to sell, buy or raise capital.   

Chris presents at insurance industry events on topics such as mergers, acquisitions, succession planning and financial options for agents as well as writes articles and conduct webinars for the insurance industry’s top banks on the same topics.  

Chris is a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) and a member of the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants (AAIMCo).  He holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a Financial Management Certificate from Cornell University. He resides near Austin, TX with his wife, Cyndi.


Brian Henson

Managing Director

Brian comes to INS Capital Group with 20 years of experience in commercial banking supporting a wide range of industries and clients.  Ten of those years were focused on providing best in class service for Insurance (agents, wholesalers, Managing General Agents, and Carriers), Registered Investment Advisors (RIA’s), Accounting (CPA) firms, Energy Service Companies (ESCO’s), and other industries looking to grow through Mergers and Acquisitions, Internal Succession initiatives, and debt financing.  Brian’s specialties are structuring and evaluating M&A transactions, due diligence, valuations, and financial analysis.

In his career, Brian supported a wide variety of great clientele with market values between $1M to $250M that have completed over $2 Billion of transactions.

Brian graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree in Management with a minor in Finance.  He resides in Carmel, IN with his wife and kids.

Matt Sprang

director

Matt has more than 25 years of commercial banking experience.  He has 16 years solely focused on the insurance agency channel.  Matt's experience gained national scope, partnering with agents, carriers, associations, and aggregators to provide capital totaling $750MM on transactions of more than $1B.  Matt brings his expertise in connecting, analyzing, calculating, coordinating, and completing deals to INS Capital Group to help clients successfully navigate the complex process of mergers and acquisitions.  Matt is known for his strategic thinking and ability to identify opportunities that others may overlook. He is highly respected in the industry for his integrity, professionalism, and commitment to delivering exceptional results for his clients.

Matt holds a bachelor’s degree from The College of Wooster and an MBA from Ashland University.  He resides in Lakeville, OH with his wife and kids

Kelly Drouillard, CPA, CPCU

Director

Kelly has more than 35 years in the insurance industry focused on agency M&A, financing, and strategic growth. Kelly has facilitated countless insurance agency acquisitions and sales with a keen focus on success for buyers and sellers. She has long-standing industry relationships with agencies, MGAs and carriers. With more than $1B in insurance industry transactions spanning retail to reinsurance, she enjoys collaborating with industry partners.

As an instructor for various classes, professional development courses, and learning modules, Kelly enjoys sharing her passion of the insurance industry with like-minded professionals and is a frequent presenter at industry events. Kelly is a faculty member for The National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. She has served in various industry trade association committee roles. She was instrumental in founding Insurance Networks Alliance, an industry group of insurance networks. Kelly is a graduate of Kansas State University, and has been a broadly licensed agent for P&C and E&S. Kelly is an active angel investor and has participated in several panels and educational angel investing activities. She is a board member of OssiFi, Inc.

Mike Piatt

Vice President of Business Development

A current collegiate basketball coach, and a leading salesperson, agent, and recruiter in the insurance business, Mike brings a wealth of energy and experience to his role as VP of Business Development at INS Capital.  Mike has built an extensive network of agency owners throughout his career, and having been on the both sides of the acquisition table, he excels in assisting business owners understand the true value of their company and what options are available to them when considering their exit strategy.

A nationally sought-after sales and marketing public speaker, Mike is also an Instructor at Purdue University Insurance Marketing Institute. Before coming to INS Capital, Mike served as the VP of Mergers & Acquisitions at a large regional agency, helping them acquire 11 agencies across the Midwest.  The company then sold to one of the 10 largest insurance brokerages in the United States.  He also he led the Midwest Region in life insurance sales at Nationwide, worked as a National Sales Trainer for Ohio National Life Insurance Company (Cincinnati), as well as a General Agent for Ohio National Life Insurance and Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Companies.  Mike enjoys coaching basketball and was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the 1988 National Championship Team at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Mike graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a bachelor’s degree in history and resides in Dayton, OH with his wife.
